Zanzibar Safari Tours

What We Do

Change The World

You plan a trip to Zanzibar because you want beauty and balance. Zanzibar Safari Tours gives you both. You spend quiet mornings on warm water, then you chase golden light across the savannah. Your plan can be all island, or island plus safari.

You choose the tempo. We align flights, vehicles, boats, and the small details that make travel feel simple.

You visit Zanzibar for warm water, slow mornings, and evenings that taste like sea salt and grilled seafood. You walk narrow Stone Town alleys, brush past carved doors, and hear a call to prayer float over rooftops. You step onto bright beaches in Nungwi or Kendwa, then drift over Mnemba’s reefs where fish flash like confetti. You sip sugarcane juice, watch dhows slide across the horizon, and feel your shoulders drop before lunch.

You also come for culture you can touch. A spice farmer slices cinnamon and lets you smell the bark. A guide in Jozani points out a red colobus family as the youngster misjudges a branch and recovers with style.

You get a human welcome at the airport, a clear daily plan, and guides who read tides, traffic, and animal behavior. We use plain language, accurate timings, and honest advice. You see the real island, and if you add mainland safari, you see big skies and big mammals without losing beach time. You leave rested, not rushed.

Why combine Zanzibar with safari?

You pair Zanzibar with safari because you want two strong moods and the best of both sides in just one trip. You start with golden hours on the plains, lions yawning on rocks, and elephants crossing with slow certainty.

You end with warm tides and quiet beaches where the only decision is reef or nap. Flights between the island and parks run daily on most routes, so you protect the hours that matter most.

You also gain contrast that makes each part shine brighter. After dawn game drives, the island water feels softer. After a lazy Kendwa sunset, the next morning on the savannah feels sharper.

You keep logistics tight, a 4×4 with a pro guide in the bush and a small boat with a patient skipper by the reef. You go home rested, with photos that smell like dust and salt.

What You Can Expect on a safari from Zanzibar

Most of your transfers are by boat but in some cases, you shall transfer by planes and upon arrival at the parks, you travel in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop up roof. Your guide reads tracks, wind, and light.

You stop longer when scenes build. You keep windows open when dust allows, and you keep noise low around animals. Some of the most common and exciting safari destinations to combine with your Zanzibar holiday are;

Mikumi: Open plains on the Mkata floodplain. Elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, and regular lion sightings.

Serengeti. Wide grasslands and rocky kopjes, with year round lions, cheetahs, elephants, and strong birdlife. Seasonal migration in north or south.

Ngorongoro. A compact wildlife bowl with high chances of multiple big species in a single morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit Zanzibar and add a safari?

You can enjoy Zanzibar most months. Short rains arrive in November. Long rains fall in April and May. Sea conditions change with wind and tide, so we schedule reef days when the water calms and switch to Stone Town or Jozani if the breeze picks up.

If you want the classic beach look, June to October and December to March feel reliable.

While for safari, this can be done year round. January to March brings southern Serengeti calving with intense predator action. June to October gives strong viewing across Tanzania and Kenya with migration in the north. Mikumi and Saadani are always accessible with open views after the long rains. You choose your window, then we match parks to it.

How many days do you need for a beach plus safari plan?

You can feel both sides in as little as five to six days. Think two nights on safari with dawn and dusk drives, then three nights on the island for a reef day and a slow beach day. If you have more time, seven to ten days lets you add Stone Town and a second park or coast area without rushing.

If you want the Serengeti at its best, give it at least two nights and plan a full day in the middle. For the island, save one day for Mnemba side snorkeling and one day for nothing but the sea. Your body will thank you for the pause.

Do you need to be a strong swimmer for reef trips and a seasoned traveler for safari?

No. Boats are always equipped with life vests, and crews choose easy entry sites with gentle currents. If the water feels choppy, we use sheltered reefs or swap the order so you hit better conditions later. On Mafia Island, whale shark outings include a clear briefing and respectful timing. You step in only when the approach feels safe.

Safari asks for curiosity more than experience. Your guide reads tracks, sets a calm pace, and positions the vehicle for clean views without crowding animals. Vehicles carry cold water and first aid. You bring a hat, sunscreen, and patience for the moments that unfold when you wait five minutes longer.

What should you pack for Zanzibar and a short safari add on?

Pack light and smart. Use soft sided luggage if you fly on bush sectors. Bring light cotton, a long sleeve swim shirt, reef safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, sandals with grip, and a small dry bag for boat days. Add insect repellent and a simple travel pharmacy that suits you.

For safari, add neutral layers, a warm fleece for cool mornings, closed shoes with grip, and your camera with a spare card and battery. Leave drones at home unless you hold written permits. Keep valuables minimal and carry a photocopy of your passport in a separate pouch.

How do you keep the trip ethical and low impact on wildlife and reefs?

You start with simple rules. Keep distance from animals. Do not feed wildlife. Never stand on coral. Use reef safe products. Keep sound low in vehicles and boats. Your fees support park protection and community partners that make conservation stick.

Guides and skippers help you keep these promises. On dolphin and whale shark outings, you follow time limits and avoid boxing animals in. On game drives, you stay on tracks and turn off the engine at sensitive sightings. You leave with better photos and a clear conscience.

How far in advance should you book?

Three to six months gives you the best choice of rooms and flight times. For peak months and migration windows, book earlier. If your dates are flexible, we can still fix a good plan at shorter notice.

Can you customize everything?

Yes. You can add or remove nights, change the order of destinations, request private boats, or switch a north coast day to the south. We keep the same hotel pairs unless you ask us to change them.

Are dolphin trips and whale shark outings ethical?

They can be when done properly. We brief you on approach and set time limits. We never crowd animals or cut them off. If a morning turns busy with many boats, we change timing or shift to a quieter plan.

What if weather cancels a boat day?

We swap sequence, offer a sheltered site, or switch to a land day like Jozani Forest or Stone Town. You still get a full day of value.

Is mainland safari worth adding to a short island trip?
Yes, if you use flights and protect dawn and dusk. Two days in Mikumi or Serengeti delivers strong sightings without long roads when planned right.

What should you pack for island and safari?

Light cotton for the coast, a hat, sunglasses, and sandals with grip. Neutral layers for safari, a warm fleece for cool mornings, closed shoes with grip, and a soft sided bag. Bring a dry bag for boat days and a spare phone case.
