Your 6 Days Zanzibar & Mikumi Safaris blends three slow island nights with two big sky safari nights. You start in Stone Town and the beach for spice, sandbanks, and warm water, then you fly to Mikumi for lions on open plains and elephant herds along acacia lines. You finish rested, not rushed, with the sea and the savannah both fresh in your mind.
We align flights, boats, and game drives so each day flows. You focus on easy mornings, golden hour sightings, and simple dinners on the beach or by a campfire. You keep the moments. We keep the timing and just ensure everything is as great as possible.
Day 1: Zanzibar arrival, Stone Town welcome
Arrive at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. Our team greets you, helps with bags, and takes you into Stone Town. Check in, breathe the spice air, and wander past carved doors and small courtyards. Choose a rooftop view or a quiet seaside dinner as the light softens.
After the encounter with old streets and sea breeze, you shall embark on an easy evening. Take a short walk along the seafront, watch late dhows slide by, and listen to the water. Sleep lands quickly when the town hum settles.
Lodging, Stone Town
Day 2: Safari Blue and Nakupenda Sandbank
Join a full day on the water. You sail on a traditional dhow, snorkel bright coral gardens, and step onto Nakupenda Sandbank where the sea looks like melted glass. Fresh seafood lunch and fruit tastings keep energy easy while the crew times stops to tides and visibility.
After the encounter with clear shallows and dhow sails, you shall embark on a gentle return to town. Rinse off the salt, rest a little, then step out for a simple dinner. If the sky cooperates, you catch a sunset that insists on a second photo.
Lodging, Stone Town
Day 3: North Coast switch, Kendwa sunset
Transfer to the north coast after breakfast. Take a short drive to your beach hotel in Nungwi or Kendwa. Settle in, swim, and let the lagoon set your pace. If you want a light activity, add a short boat out toward Mnemba side shallows for an easy snorkel.
After the encounter with warm water and soft sand, you shall embark on a calm evening. Kendwa’s wide beach handles sunset like a stage. Pick grilled octopus or a light curry and stay long enough to watch the stars arrive.
Lodging, Northern Zanzibar
Day 4: Fly to Mikumi, first game drive
Fly to Dar es Salaam in the morning, then connect to Mikumi or transfer by road depending on schedules. Meet your guide and take a short drive to your safari camp with a game-viewing route en route. After lunch, roll out for an afternoon drive across open Mkata plains where giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest cluster in easy view.
After the encounter with wide horizons and your first pride tracks, you shall embark on a quiet evening by the fire. You listen for hyena calls and watch sparks float into a very dark sky. Sleep arrives with the comfort that tomorrow holds more.
Lodging, Mikumi National Park
Day 5: Full day Mikumi, picnic on the plains
Rise early for golden light. You follow fresh spoor near the floodplain, scan for lions resting in shade, and watch elephant families move with slow certainty. Picnic at a safe viewpoint while oxpeckers chatter and the plain opens in every direction.
After the encounter with patient sightings and long views, you shall embark on a softer afternoon loop. You stop for small things too, from saddle billed storks to the rhythm of grazing herds. Back in camp, dinner tastes better when dust still clings to your boots.
Lodging, Mikumi National Park
Day 6: Morning drive, fly out to Zanzibar or home
Take a final dawn loop for last looks. Lions often shift positions before heat settles. Return for breakfast, check out, and transfer to the airstrip or road connection back to Dar es Salaam. Continue to Zanzibar for an extra beach night if your schedule allows, or connect to your international flight.
After the encounter with farewells and final views, you shall embark on your journey with one clear thought. Six days used well, two worlds properly felt.
Is six days enough for both Zanzibar and Mikumi?
Yes. You enjoy two distinct moods, island and savannah, without rushing. Smart flight timing protects your game drive hours.
When is the best time to travel?
Zanzibar stays warm most months and Mikumi offers year-round wildlife, with very open viewing after the long rains. The very best time to visit both is going to be between the months and November.
How long are the transfers on Day 4 and Day 6?
Zanzibar to Mikumi involves a short hop to Dar es Salaam and a connection to Mikumi, or a road transfer if flights are limited. We build buffers so you do not miss the afternoon drive.
Can you switch the order to start with Mikumi?
Yes. Begin with Mikumi for back to back game drives, then finish on Zanzibar. We keep the same lodging pairs and adjust flights.
Can you upgrade boats or arrange private dhows?
Yes. We can secure a private dhow for Safari Blue and a small boat for Mnemba side snorkeling, subject to weather and tides.
What should you pack for coast and savannah together?
Neutral layers for safari, a light fleece for cool mornings, comfortable shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, reef safe sunscreen, swimwear, sandals with grip, and a small daypack. Add a dry bag for boat days and a spare phone case.
Stay in Zanzibar, relax on sugar-white beaches, then fly to Serengeti or Nyerere for big cats, returning to sunset dhows and spice markets; you enjoy safari action with beach downtime with the experts.
